Under the guidance of Academy staff, Interns at the New Jersey Academy for Aquatic Sciences have opportunities for hands-on experiences in a variety of areas. From science to education there is an array of opportunities for all types of students.

General Statement

Ideally, interns with the New Jersey Academy for Aquatic Sciences should be willing to commit up to ten hours a week over the course of an entire semester or summer. NJAAS internships are for credit only. Once accepted into the program, students must make arrangements through their schools registrar or academic department to receive credit. Position Descriptions

Education Internships (2)

Classroom Programs (Fall/Spring): The classroom intern will work with the Academic Programs Coordinator assisting with the preparation for and facilitation of k-8 lessons in the NJAAS Discovery Classroom located at Adventure Aquarium. Intern may be asked to perform some clerical duties and data entry as well as assist in new program development. Students applying for the classroom internship should be of junior or senior standing working toward a bachelor’s in Elementary Education, or enrolled in a Teacher Preparation program with a major in one of the sciences.

Outreach (Spring): The outreach intern will work under the direction of the Academy’s Outreach Coordinator. She/he will assist in preparing supplies and other lesson material for hands-on outreach programs. The outreach intern, once trained may also facilitate portions of specific programs, teaching audiences of varying sizes. Handling of small animals may be required.
